Anatta philosophy

Anatta in Buddhism refers to the state of ‘not-self’. The Buddha used this term to teach that everything we perceive with our senses – and this includes our mind with our thoughts – cannot really be described as ‘I’ or ‘mine’. The term does not mean that there is no ‘I’, but that it is not the true ‘I’ – the image that our mind has created! We must get rid of the ‘I’ created by form, perception, thoughts and consciousness in order to reach our true, higher self.

Dan Millman about the Self in The Path of the Peaceful Warrior: “Underneath the layers, the ‘Self’ is the universe itself.”

Once you've peeled the layers off yourself like an onion and there's nothing left, then the universe itself is there.

Mária Szepes about the Self in the Varázstükör:

"Me? Which Me? There is only one Me and many clothes!"

The first half of life is devoted to forming a healthy ego, the second half is going inward and letting go of it. - Carl Jung -
